Vaginal Rejuvenation Q & A

What is vaginal atrophy?

As you approach menopause, your body begins producing lower levels of estrogen, one of the main reproductive hormones that control menstruation and fertility.

Estrogen also plays an important role in maintaining vaginal tissue elasticity, acidity, and normal lubrication. That’s why having lower estrogen levels can make your vaginal tissues drier, thinner, less elastic, and more fragile.

Other symptoms associated with vaginal atrophy include:

  • Discomfort during intercourse
  • Light bleeding following intercourse
  • Burning or frequent urination
  • Urinary incontinence or chronic urinary tract infections

Even though younger women don’t generally experience vaginal atrophy, fluctuating estrogen levels following childbirth or while nursing can also result in similar symptoms.

How can FemTouch help?

FemTouch uses advanced CO2 fractional laser technology to safely and effectively rejuvenate the tissues that line your vaginal canal.

The treatment works by making painless microscopic injuries in these tissues, which triggers your body’s immune system response to help restore the collagen, glycogen, and hyaluronic acid that make up healthy vaginal tissue.

In addition to causing your vaginal tissues to plump up and become more hydrated, these changes help restore normal vaginal pH to encourage the return of healthy bacteria.

In just two to four quick in-office treatment sessions, FemTouch laser therapy can stop atrophic vaginitis, provide symptom relief, and restore complete vaginal function.

What is the FemTouch treatment like?

FemTouch is a quick in-office treatment that takes just a few minutes to complete. During the procedure, Dr. Biondi inserts the laser into your vagina on a sterilized applicator. The laser emits gentle, painless pulses of energy as it’s applied in a 360-degree pattern across your vaginal tissue.

Although most women see noticeable results following the first treatment, the average woman needs two to four treatments for optimal results. Each treatment is spaced four weeks apart to give your body’s healing mechanisms enough time to rejuvenate the tissues.

What can I expect following treatment?

Compared to vaginal rejuvenation treatments that use radiofrequency energy to restore vaginal tissues, FemTouch yields better, longer-lasting results with fewer risks and potential side effects.

Because FemTouch is painless, has virtually no side effects, and doesn’t require any recovery time, you can resume most normal activities immediately.

It is recommended, however, that you refrain from having vaginal intercourse or using tampons for about a week to give your vaginal tissues ample time to heal.
